Officials have issued a warning to those who play one of those clones of the popular online game Flappy Bird.

Santa Clara-based Internet security firm McAfee says they sampled 270 clones and almost 80 percent contained some form of malware.

Flappy Bird exploded into popularity earlier this year, but the developer took the game off Apple's app store and Google Play in February, saying it was too addictive.

The most common form of malware would secretly force a user's computer to call phone numbers that charge by the minute.
