BELMONT, Calif. (KGO) -- A wounded warrior in the Bay Area got a special delivery on Wednesday. Readen Clavier is the proud owner of a reconditioned SUV.
Clavier served in Iraq for 10 months until his Humvee was hit by an improvised explosive device. He was unconscious for two weeks and discharged from the Army because of his injuries.
Mechanics from Summit Auto Body Shop in Belmont worked to restore the SUV as a way to say thank you for his service.
"Awesome," Clavier said. "I had a car in Hawaii but I had to give it up for my divorce. And this is awesome."
"They sacrificed a lot for us so I thought it was the least I could do to help them out a little bit," said Chris Zammit with Summit Auto Body Shop.
So far the mechanics have restored about five vehicles to help wounded vets.
The Veterans Affairs Department helps to choose the recipients.
