At about 3 p.m. Saturday, the victim saw David McDaniel steal his bicycle, which was parked at Casa Grande High School at 333 Casa Grande Road, according to police.

About two hours later, the victim spotted McDaniel riding the stolen bicycle in the area of La Tercera Elementary School at 1600 Albin Way, police said.

With the assistance of a friend, the victim tried to retrieve his bike from McDaniel, who displayed a knife in an attempt to fend off the two men, according to police.

As the three argued, McDaniel punched the hood of the victim's truck several times, causing substantial damage, police said.

Several people witnessed the incident and called police, who arrived as McDaniel fled the area through the school grounds toward Baywood Drive, police said.

Officers set up a perimeter around the area and arrested McDaniel as he tried to flee toward Crinella Drive. Police later located the knife concealed in a water basin in the middle of the school.

McDaniel was on probation in Sonoma County for an unrelated incident and had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for previously violating his probation, according to police.

He was booked into Sonoma County Jail on charges of armed robbery, brandishing a weapon, possession of stolen property, felony vandalism, violation of probation, and obstructing a peace officer, police said.
