The first took place in the 2400 block of 77th Avenue at around 5:20 p.m., Oakland police spokesman Jeff Thomason said. Officers were dispatched to the area after receiving a call that a man had been shot.

Arriving officers were informed that a shooting victim had been taken to a hospital in a private vehicle.

The victim, 32-year-old Oakland resident Rick Redmond, was taken to Highland Hospital where he died from his injuries.

Officers were dispatched to the scene of another reported shooting about an hour later at Seventh Avenue and Foothill Boulevard at 6:20 p.m., Thomason said.

The victim, a 31-year-old man whose name has not been released, was witnessed running from a person firing a gun.

Arriving officers found the man lying on the ground suffering numerous gunshot wounds and surrounded by a crowd of onlookers.

Oakland Fire Department medical personnel and other emergency responders assisted in providing aid to the victim and transporting him to a hospital, where he was ultimately pronounced dead.
