Man found shot, killed in stopped car

OAKLAND, Calif.

Officers responded to reports of a solo-vehicle crash near the 7100 block of Halliday Avenue, police spokeswoman Holly Joshi said.

Arriving paramedics found the man in a 2006 Mercedes that had collided with a fence in front of 7106 Halliday Ave., Joshi said.

Police initially said that the man was driving when a suspect opened fire on his vehicle, and that the victim hit several parked cars before coming to a stop along the roadway.

The man was taken to Highland Hospital where doctors found a single gunshot wound. Medical staff couldn't revive the victim and he was pronounced dead from the gunshot.

Police believe the shooting may have taken place on the 6900 block of Halliday Avenue. No suspects have been arrested.

The Alameda County coroner's bureau had not identified the victim as of 11 a.m.
