6 displaced by one-alarm fire in single-family home

SAN JOSE, Calif.

The fire on the 1100 block of South 10th Street near Keyes Street was reported shortly before 6 p.m., Capt. Robert Brown said.

Firefighters arriving on the scene found heavy smoke and flames coming out of the basement of a single story older home.

The fire was contained quickly, with no injuries, but six occupants including one infant were displaced, Brown said.

The fire's cause remains undetermined. Brown said residents told investigators they first saw smoke coming from the basement.

The fire caused extensive damage estimated at $150,000 to $200,000 to the basement, a first floor bedroom and the attic.
