14-year-old boy accused of murdering teen

OAKLAND, Calif.

The 14-year-old boy is being held at Alameda County Juvenile Hall in San Leandro and is scheduled to appear in juvenile court on May 11 for pretrial motions, according to Assistant District Attorney Matthew Golde.

The murder charge stems from the fatal shooting of Shonte Daniels at Arroyo Viejo Park at about 2 a.m. on April 21.

Oakland police said they found Daniels suffering from a gunshot wound when they responded to the shooting. He was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

In addition to murder, the 14-year-old boy is charged with two counts of possession of a loaded firearm in public.

Authorities aren't releasing his name because he is charged as a juvenile.

Golde declined to discuss the circumstances of the fatal shooting, saying they are confidential.
