Vigils to mark first anniversary of shooting at Sandy Hook

Twenty children and six adults were killed when 20-year- old Adam Lanza opened fire at Sandy Hook Elementary last December 14.

The gunman then took his own life within a minute after police arrived.

Family members say they will light a candle in memory of their loved ones.

They ask that people honor the victims by performing acts of kindness in their own communities.

Here in the Bay Area, a vigil to mark the anniversary will be held Friday at San Francisco's City Hall. I's happening at 1 p.m.

San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee, state Senators Leland Yee, D-San Francisco, and Mark Leno, D-San Francisco, are expected to attend.
