Residents in Eureka are holding special services Sunday to remember a beloved priest who was murdered New Year's Day inside the rectory.

Three vigil services will be held at St. Bernard Church for Rev. Eric Freed.

Parishioners are still trying to cope with his killing.

"I think the one thing I learned from father Eric, and it's not going to be easy, is that we have to forgive the man who did it and I'm not there yet, I'm angry, I'm really angry," Parishioner Therese Dick said.

Police say Gary Lee Bullock broke into the rectory and killed the priest on New Year's Day.

Father Freed had ties to the Bay Area, presiding over a monthly mass at St. Francis Xavier in San Francisco.
