The San Mateo Union High School District is taking measures to make its students and faculty a little safer in the classroom.

New locks designed to keep a would-be intruder out and students in, are now installed on classroom doors at San Mateo High School.

The so-called Columbine locks will be installed at five other high schools over the next few weeks.

It will cost the district more than a quarter of a million dollars to buy and install the new locks.
