Woman in stolen car dies off Hwy 92

HAYWARD, CA

According to the California Highway Patrol, a Hayward patrol officer spotted a white Saturn speeding near Alice and B streets at about 2:40 a.m. and gave chase but lost sight of the vehicle.

While the search continued, a security guard at the Fairfield Inn on Industrial Boulevard near state Highway 92 found the Saturn on its roof in the hotel's rear parking lot, the CHP reported.

The driver, a woman whose identity has not been released by the Alameda County coroner's bureau, was pronounced dead at the scene.

CHP investigators believe the woman was exiting the highway at Industrial Boulevard at "a high rate of speed," left the roadway and crossed over a nearby onramp, landing in the hotel parking lot north of the onramp.

Hayward police later discovered the Saturn had been stolen the previous night from the Bay Area Rapid Transit parking lot, according to the CHP.
