Police say 22-year-old Shabnam Barekzai told them last week she was robbed of her four-carat ring, as she left the Macy's store at Somersville Towne Center.
Investigators, however, say the holdup was not seen on mall surveillance video. Detectives discovered she made a $46,000 insurance claim on a policy that was about to be canceled.
The ring has not been found. Police believe it had been sold.
