Grass fires extinguished, Hwy 680 clear

All lanes of Interstate Highway 680 reopened by about 8:45 a.m. today after several small grass fires prompted closures near Fremont, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The fires sparked around 7:15 a.m., forcing the closure of the southbound No. 3 and 4 lanes near the Mission Grade Scales and the No. 5 lane near Sheridan Road, according to CHP Officer Peter Van Eckhardt.

A Sig-alert was issued at 7:40 a.m. and canceled at 8:44 a.m., CHP Officer Kevin Kroncke said.
