At least one person suffered major injuries this morning after a big-rig and another vehicle collided on Byron Highway in unincorporated Contra Costa County, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Emergency personnel responded shortly after 7 a.m. to the crash on Byron Highway at Holey Road, near the Byron Airport, CHP Officer A. Paulson said.

The big rig involved in the crash jackknifed, and at least one person needed to be extricated from the wreck with the Jaws of Life, Paulson said.

Both lanes of Byron Highway are blocked and a Sig-alert was issued at 7:28 a.m.
