The officer had stopped to ticket a vehicle parked in a red zone on Gilman Street at Sixth Street at about 1:30 p.m. when the owner of the car, Richmond resident Markeysha Bilal-Fields, appeared and said she would move the car, Berkeley police spokesman Andrew Frankel said.
The officer said she was already writing the ticket, but Bilal-Fields repeated that she would move the car, Frankel said.
Bilal-Fields then attempted to drive away and ran over the officer's foot, Frankel said. He did not know whether that was intentional.
The officer was transported to a hospital and Bilal-Fields was arrested on felony charges of evading a police officer and causing injury, Frankel said.
