Gov. wants consequences for budget delays

Schwarzenegger's comments come after an 85-day standoff between lawmakers over how to close a $15.2 billion deficit. The impasse was the longest in state history and put the squeeze on medical clinics, nursing homes, daycare centers and other community programs that receive state aid.

Schwarzenegger spoke Thursday during a conference sponsored by the League of California Cities in Long Beach. He said he will talk with lawmakers about the need for consequences to prevent future delays in passing the budget.
