The city of Berkeley is launching its own fire department water rescue team.

A $45,000 grant from the firemen's fund insurance company will allow Berkeley to train and equip 12 firefighters for water rescue missions.

Berkeley has the second largest marina in Northern California, with over seven miles of waterfront and the Lake Anza aquatic park.
