The Sonoma County Sheriff's Department arrested a man suspected of attempting to assault and kidnap a minor from a Windsor street Thursday night.

Deputies who were dispatched to the 6000 block of Old Redwood Highway around 7:30 p.m. were told the victim had been walking on the same street when she was contacted by a man in a vehicle.

The victim and a witness told the sheriff's department that the suspect tried to convince the girl to get into the car but when she refused, he got out and attempted to physically force her inside.

The sheriff's department said the victim was able to run away and call Windsor police. Using a description of the suspect vehicle, deputies were able to track down 19-year-old Gerardo Cruz-Pacheco.

He was booked into the Main Adult Detention Facility on felony charges of stalking, attempted kidnapping and child molestation and misdemeanor unlicensed driving.
