Sunnyvale standoff suspect arraigned

SAN JOSE, CA

Sunnyvale resident Richard Orestes Guerrero, 35, was arrested for the murder of 46-year-old Homer Bejarano Resendez, who was killed March 19, Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office spokeswoman Amy Cornell said.

Resendez was shot outside his home in the 3600 block of Cape Cod Court, police said. He ran inside and family members called police, but he died after being transported to a hospital.

Police arrested two 18-year-old San Jose men, Miguel Calzada and Israel Eduardo Lopez, on June 20 in connection with the shooting.

A third suspect, San Jose resident Arturo Hernandez-Tadeo, 19, was arrested June 24. All three are facing murder charges, Cornell said.

Guerrero's arrest came after a five-hour standoff in Sunnyvale Thursday that closed down Coolidge Avenue.

His co-defendants are scheduled to enter a plea to the charges against them on Oct. 21, Cornell said. It is likely that defense attorneys and prosecutors will attempt to coordinate the court dates of the four defendants, she added.

Guerrero is facing charges of murder and possession of a firearm by a felon, and is scheduled to be arraigned at 2 p.m. in Department 23.
