EBMUD spills 1,000 gallons of sewage

OAKLAND, CA

The five-minute "minor" spill began around 11:15 a.m. at EBMUD's San Antonio Creek Wet Weather Treatment Facility at 321 Embarcadero near the Jack London Aquatic Center.

According to EBMUD, the spill occurred while the district was performing an operation test of the facility and regulatory agencies were immediately notified. Those agencies included the Alameda County Health Department, Office of Emergency and the California Regional Water Quality Board.

Samples of water in the area have been collected for analysis but in the meantime the district has posted an advisory urging the avoidance of water contact. The advisory will be update or removed based on bacteria concentrations compared to state health standards for water contact recreation.

Additional spill information can be found at the district's Web site.
