California Highway Patrol arrived at the scene of a reported accident on northbound U.S. Highway 101 at about 1:45 a.m., and found an overturned sport utility vehicle north of the Waldo tunnel blocking two left lanes, but could not locate the vehicle's driver, the CHP reported.
Officers from the Marin County Sheriff's Office and the CHP requested a K-9 unit at about 2 a.m. to assist in a search of the area, Pacheco said.
Northbound lanes on Highway 101 were clear at about 4 a.m. and the search was called off at that time, CHP said.
CHP Officer Ralph Caggiano said the vehicle had been reported stolen and that the driver likely ran away after the crash to avoid authorities.
The vehicle has been impounded, he said.
Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact the California Highway Patrol at (415) 924-1100.
