Downtown San Jose building goes solar

SAN JOSE, CA

The dedication ceremony took place Friday morning at the Tech Museum of Innovation.

The 185-kilowatt solar array was built by the San Jose-based SunPower Corporation.

Mayor Chuck Reed says projects like these are a cornerstone of future job growth in Silicon Valley.

"We know we have a huge opportunity to create a lot of jobs in clean technology. It's a global marketplace and a global competition and we've got to be the best place in the world to do that," said Reed. "We want to make sure these clean tech companies stay here and grow here to create jobs for local people, especially in this bad economy."

Reed would like to see more projects like this throughout San Jose as an important part of the city's green vision.
