Salinas man faces 4 years for battery

Roberto Scripture was accused of attacking his ex-girlfriend Feb. 22 around 8:30 p.m. at the woman's Salinas home, the district attorney's office reported.

The victim reported that she told Scripture to leave through the front door, but Scripture instead went through a living room window and used a knife to open the locked bedroom door where the victim and her children were sleeping.

A struggle ensued and the woman's hand was cut, according to the district attorney's office. Scripture was also reported to have forced his ex-girlfriend onto a couch in the living room and to have punched her in the face.

The victim, who was bruised and cut during the confrontation, also reported that Scripture had returned to her home to threaten her two days after the attack.

The woman reported the battery afterward, the district attorney's office reported.

Scripture, who pleaded no contest Monday to spousal battery and criminal threats, faces up to four years in state prison. He is scheduled for sentencing Jan. 15 at 8:45 a.m. in Monterey County Superior Court.
