Historic SF bookstore getting evicted

SAN FRANCISCO

The sheriff's department changed the locks this morning at McDonald's Books at Turk and Market in the Tenderloin District

Store owner Itzhak Volansky has 18 days to move all his all things out.

Volansky says sales have declined dramatically and he can longer afford the $10,000 a month rent. He says a sluggish economy and increasing crime in the neighborhood has scared away customers.

But Volansky is not ready to stop selling books.

"It's going to give us a challenge, but I would like to continue this book trade because I'm a masochist, thank you very much," Volansky said.

The store is more than six months behind on its rent.
