Rohnert Park residents warned about suspect

ROHNERT PARK, CA

The assault occurred Nov. 24 when a 20-year-old woman was walking through her apartment complex at 8670 Camino Colegio and the suspect attacked her around 6:15 p.m., police said.

The suspect was apparently lying in wait for her, and attacked her as she walked by, according to police.

He punched the victim in the face, knocking her to the ground, and jumped on top of her in an attempt to pin her to the ground, police said. The woman fought back and managed to escape by delivering a series of knee thrusts and kicks, according to police.

She then ran to a neighbor's apartment and called police while the suspect fled the scene, police said.

The woman suffered minor injuries from the attack but declined medical treatment, according to police.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic man in his mid to late 20s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall and 160 pounds, police said. He reportedly had a slender build and was wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt.

While investigating the assault, detectives learned of an incident in the same apartment complex parking lot that had occurred the evening of Nov. 21, according to police.

A 26-year-old woman had reported she was sitting in her car when a man shouted at her that he needed to use her cell phone, police said. The woman did not oblige him and remained inside her locked vehicle until the man disappeared, according to police.

The woman's description of the man was similar to the assault suspect. She said he was a slim Hispanic man in his mid to late 20s and about 5 feet 8 inches tall. She also said he was driving a red or maroon sedan, police said.

Anyone with information about either event or any other similar suspicious incidents is asked to call police at (707) 584-2630.
