California State University East Bay will commemorate the 200th birthday of former President Abraham Lincoln on Thursday with a free lecture and book-signing by the man who wrote "A Nation Transformed: How the Civil War Changed America Forever."

Author Gerald Henig, who is a CSUEB professor emeritus of history, will focus on how a common man from the Illinois prairies made history. His lecture is titled, "Abraham Lincoln: An Uncommon Common Man."

The lecture begins at 1 p.m. in the University Library Biella Room at 25800 Carlos Bee Blvd. in Hayward.
