Sgt. Lisa Banayat said the attack at the Upper Fourth Bar & Lounge at 96 Old Courthouse Square appears to be unprovoked.

A witness said he saw the suspect turn to a man sitting next to him and raise a beer bottle over his head and smash it into the victim's face.

Police responded at 1:35 a.m. The victim suffered cuts to his face and head when the bottle shattered. The wounds required stitches, Banayat said.

The suspect is a man in his early 20s with short brown hair. He is about 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighs 220 pounds, police said. He left the bar before police arrived, Banayat said. Anyone with information is asked to call police at (707) 543-3590.
