A crash involving two vehicles was reported at about 3:45 a.m. on eastbound Highway 4 just east of Hillcrest Avenue, according to the CHP.

A man driving a brown Buick Sentry had apparently ran out of gas and the vehicle became disabled and blacked out in the far right lane, according to CHP Officer Peter Van Eckhardt.

Soon afterward, the vehicle was struck from behind by a tow truck, according to Van Eckhardt, who said the tow truck happened to be in the area and was not coming to assist the vehicle.

The lane was blocked for almost three hours because of the crash and was reopened at about 6:35 a.m., Van Eckhardt said.
