Units responded to a fire reported just before 1:30 a.m. in a two-story building in the 700 block of Ashbury St., a dispatcher with the San Francisco Fire Department said, who did not yet know if the building was a residence, business or school. The fire was mostly contained to a garage area, and was controlled at about 1:45 a.m.

Emergency crews blocked access to Ashbury Street between Frederick and Waller streets while firefighters responded. The closure was lifted at about 3 a.m. though fire officials and investigators remained at the scene.
