The most popular Stafford and Parent Plus Loans are unchanged, but private student loans are more expensive, harder to come by, and tough to comparison shop.
Student Lending Analytics, a consulting firm just conducted a survey and found loans were all but impossible to get without a co-signer. That is something new.
SLC also found lending rates ranged from 7 to 12-percent, on adjustable mortgages, so the costs will likely go up from there.
Add-on fees were not stated on many of the loans, so ask what will a late payment cost you and if there are fees for getting a statement.
Private student loans are expensive and should always be the last resort after savings, scholarships and federal loans have been used.
