A northbound Caltrain train fatally struck the person around 8:25 a.m. near East Meadow Drive at a street crossing, according to spokeswoman Mary Knuckles. The gates, as well as lights and bells, were reportedly activated at the time of the crash.

As of about 10 a.m., trains were single-tracking on the southbound tracks around the crash, Knuckles said.

Today's death was the second Caltrain fatality in less than 24 hours. A female pedestrian was struck and killed by a southbound Caltrain train around 11:30 a.m. Monday just north of the San Antonio station in Mountain View.

Monday's death was Caltrain's first pedestrian fatality this year.
