Controversy over BART police uniform change

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, BART Police Chief Gary Gee ordered new shoulder patches last year without telling board members.

The new patch just says "police" with the words "Bay Area Rapid Rransit" The previous patch had "BART Police" in bold letters.

Board member Lynette Sweet says the change looks like BART police are trying to minimize their public profile. After former BART officer Johaness Mehserle shot and killed Oscar Grant on New Year's Day.

Mehserle faces murder charges and will be in court on June 18th.
