San Pablo police went to a home at 2909 21st St. at about 8:10 p.m. Tuesday after receiving a call from a man who said his father had just shot his wife, police Cmdr. Mark Foisie said Wednesday.

When officers arrived, they found Marlo Schumacker in the living room suffering from a gunshot wound to her head.

Her husband, Walter Schumacker, 63, was also in the living room suffering from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head, Foisie said.

Another man who had had witnessed the incident was also in the living room. Walter Schumacker's 40-year-old son was outside when the shooting happened, Foisie said.

Walter and Marlo Schumacker were both taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, where Walter Schumacker died Tuesday. Marlo Schumacker was pronounced dead late this morning.

Shortly before the shooting, Walter and Marlo Schumacker, who had only recently gotten married, started arguing. When she said she was going to leave him, he allegedly turned around and shot her and then shot himself, Foisie said.
