Sebastopol police Officer Greg DeVore said the girl suffered a major head injury when she was hit by a westbound Toyota Corolla as she crossed Healdsburg Avenue near Florence Avenue, close to downtown Sebastopol, around 6:10 p.m. Friday.

The 65-year-old woman driving the car veered to the left to try to avoid hitting the girl, clipped another vehicle and crashed into the Thai Issan restaurant on the south side of Healdsburg Avenue, DeVore said.

The restaurant remains closed and boarded up, DeVore said. No one in the restaurant was injured.

Witnesses said the girl was in a crosswalk but the accident remains under investigation, DeVore said. The driver was not cited.

Police are looking into the possibility that the sun blinded the driver, DeVore said.

The girl was in Sebastopol for the annual Fourth of July holiday fireworks show at Analy High School, DeVore said.
