BART and unions try to avoid strike

BART and its unions spent another day negotiating to avoid a potential strike, with a deadline looming this week.

The deadline was extended last week by nine days, until this Thursday at midnight.

State mediators are working with the two sides to try and reach an agreement.

BART is seeking $100 million in concessions from the unions, because it's facing a deficit of $250 million over the next four years.

The unions claim BART mismanaged funds and question BART's budget figures.
