Crash temporarily shuts down Hwy 17

All lanes of state Highway 17 in Santa Cruz County are back open after a mid-morning crash that injured two people and spilled strawberries onto the roadway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 9:10 a.m. on southbound Highway 17 just south of Laurel Road, near the summit.

A Saturn sedan and a Ford van collided, and the crash was so bad the CHP initially shut down the whole highway. Two people were seriously injured and were airlifted from the scene.

The CHP reopened all lanes around 11:50 a.m.
