Concord workers agree to retire early

64 employees in Concord have agreed to retire early to help ease the East Bay city's $13.5 million budget deficit.

The workers who accepted the early retirement offer will receive 7 percent of their base salary plus retirement benefits.

The retirements take effect in August and will save the city $1 million this fiscal year and nearly $4 million when it is paid off in 2014.
