David Wehrer shot himself inside his station wagon after being pulled over Saturday night near the corner of McAllister and Baker.
Police wanted to talk to him about the death of Bobby Christopher, whose body was discovered inside his apartment on Castro Street on Tuesday.
Wehrer is also suspected in an attempted bank robbery and carjacking that happened the same day Christopher's body was found.
