Iranian officials are considering the charges after arresting the hikers on Friday for illegally crossing into northern Iran from the Iraqi border.
Sara Shourd is from Oakland, Shane Bower graduated from UC Berkeley and Joshua Fatall is from Oregon.
Both U.S. and Iraqi officials are calling for the hikers' release, saying the three mistakenly crossed over the border.
