The girl, a Santa Rosa resident, allegedly raced through a red light on the morning of July 1 and knocked down Andrew Bennett and his son as they were crossing at the intersection of Valencia and 18th streets, according to police. The driver did not return to offer help.
Bennett, a 42-year-old carpenter and member of the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition, suffered a fractured spine in the collision, according to Marc Caswell, program manager with the organization.
His son fell to the ground but was not injured. Both Bennett and his son were wearing helmets, police said.
The San Francisco Police Department conducted a media campaign in the past five weeks to obtain witness information, eventually resulting in the identification and location of the suspect, who is cooperating fully with investigators, according to police.
The girl has been charged with felony hit and run, police said.
