First-time moms are getting older

The federal government reports the average age of women giving birth is now 25. It was just 21-years-old back in 1970.

The National Center for Health Statistics says one reason for the increase is that more women 35 and over are having children.

But the nation's high teen birth rate is helping keep the overall average age down.

In other industrialized nations, the average age for first-time moms is 30.
