NUMMI management team to meet with union

Union leaders fear they may learn soon that Toyota plans to stop making cars and trucks and the NUMMI plant in Fremont.

The Oakland Tribune reports that NUMMI's management team has asked to meet with union leaders on Thursday about the future of the plant.

NUMMI employs 4,700 people. Thousands of others work for NUMMI's suppliers.

Toyota plans to reduce global production by 10 percent.

NUMMI used to also produce General Motors vehicles, but recently pulled out of the joint venture.
