Second Harvest kicks off massive food drive

The Second Harvest Food Banks in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties kicked off one of the largest food drives in the nation Wednesday morning.

Food bank officials are hoping to collect $10 million in donations and nearly 2 million pounds of food.

They say many people are asking for help for the first time because they were just laid off or their work hours have been cut.

More than 1,800 organizations participate in the Second Harvest Food Bank drive each year.
