Fallen wire prompts brief lane closure on Bay Bridge

A wire fell onto the lower deck of the Bay Bridge this morning, causing no injuries but prompting the brief closure of one lane, a California Highway Patrol Officer said.

CHP Officer Trent Cross said a motorist reported at about 6 a.m. that a live wire was hanging down into eastbound traffic inside the tunnel.

The CHP closed the far right lane to "isolate the hazard," Cross said.

CHP Officer John Short said the problem was cleared and the lane reopened at about 7:20 a.m. No injuries were reported.

He said at about 8:30 a.m. that one eastbound lane was closed in that area for routine maintenance unrelated to the wire.
