Police catch suspected bike thief

SANTA ROSA, CA

A Maria Carrillo High School student reported his bike missing to school authorities after he parked it on campus Nov. 13 but couldn't find it after classes ended at 3 p.m., according to Santa Rosa police.

A school administrator reviewed security surveillance video and found footage of a suspect entering the bicycle rack area and leaving on a bike minutes later. The student identified the bike on camera as his Specialized bicycle worth about $500, according to police.

A Santa Rosa police school resource officer reportedly recognized Thomas Kittelson, 19, as the suspected bike thief on video, and contacted him Thursday at the Santa Rosa Transit Mall. Kittelson was arrested without incident and booked at Sonoma County Jail on one count of grand theft. Police haven't recovered the stolen bike.

Anyone with information regarding the theft should contact Santa Rosa police Officer Metterschmitt at (707) 543-4079.
