There was plenty of Thanksgiving spirit in Berkeley Tuesday morning, as community volunteers joined officers from Berkeley and the University of California Police Department to pack food baskets for the needy.

Much of the money for the baskets is raised by Berkeley PD's annual fundraising "Turkey Ride" to South Lake Tahoe. This is the event's 25th year, which organizers say makes it even more special.

"It's the fact that many hands are out here helping every year. We've got a lot of the same faces, but every year we have new faces," said Sgt. Jen Louis. "And, the fact that we can keep this thing sustained and going, and people still care and want to work hard, it's great."

They will be putting together 250 packages. Each contains a turkey, fresh produce and canned and packaged food.
