High surf advisory expires for Bay Area beaches

The advisory expired at 4 p.m. for all beaches between Sonoma and Monterey counties as swells fell below 15 feet, according to the weather service.

Swells had reached as high as 18 feet, and winds of around 30 mph caused choppy seas, forcing the weather service to issue the advisory that went into effect at 10 a.m. Friday.

Although the largest swells have already occurred this weekend, beachgoers are urged to be vigilant since above normal surf conditions will continue along the coast into the early morning hours Sunday.
