Woman shot on AC Transit bus in attempted robbery

SAN PABLO, CA

Investigators spent the afternoon searching an apartment complex on the 2300 block of Standard Avenue. They found some of the suspect's clothing, as well as some of the victim's belongings.

Police say the victim, a 51-year-old woman, is in serious condition at an area hospital after being shot in the stomach by a young man who was stealing her purse.

The robbery and shooting happened around 1:30 p.m. on the AC Transit 72 line. The suspect fled from the bus after the shooting.

It turns out three police detectives were driving behind the bus at the time of the incident and saw the suspect run away, but they were unaware a crime had occurred until a few minutes later when it was reported.

They do not have enough of a suspect description to release that information to the public. There were 15 people on the bus at the time of the shooting, according to an AC Transit spokesperson, but only two remained at the scene until police arrived.

"We believe it's an isolated incident; we don't have any additional information about where he's at to focus our search for him, but we do believe this was an isolated incident" San Pablo Police Sgt. Dave Lewellyn said.

There were surveillance cameras on the bus but they were not working.
