Wine Country could become too hot for grapes

A team of researchers at Stanford University has generated an unprecedented 30 year forecast on the regional impact of climate change on crops.

Among their conclusions: global warming could make the summers so hot that 80 percent of the areas now used for growing wine grapes could be unsuitable by the end of the century.

They have similar projections for the maple syrup industry and Midwest corn.

Their findings will be presented Wednesday at a conference in San Francisco.
