U.S. Coast Guard Sector San Francisco was notified of the discovery of the woman in the water off of Miramontes Point at about 3:45 p.m., Coast Guard Petty Officer Brazier said.
The Coast Guard was called off from a possible rescue mission when it was confirmed that the woman was deceased and that her body had been recovered.
The coroner's office did not release the woman's name on Thursday pending final confirmation of her identity and notification of next of kin.
